E-Day minus two and this is still a tough call. The Lib incumbent seems to have a strong base of support while his Con challenger has what might be called a personality deficit. I’ve heard two stories in recent days of her visiting seniors’ buildings and making a bad impression. It seems she doesn’t respond well to being challenged on a statement. That could sink her campaign.

Less than a week to go and the race seems much closer. Lots of Lib support in old St. B, Norwood and north St Vital, but the Con can still count on the more affluent parts of the riding (like Southdale) to deliver lopsided support on the 14th. I’m still predicting a Con win here. A short bit of national analysis is at my blog.

I live in St. Boniface, and I am voting for Simard. He is experienced, and you never hear anything bad about him.

I live in St B and the race doesn’t some close any more. Basically all of the riding except old St B (Wpg’s “French Quarter”) has far more Con signs than Lib signs. Glover has an “anglo” name, but is Metis and bilingual and speaks French at home (so I read). And the francophone vote, which in the past has been solidly Liberal, is only about 15 per cent of the riding. Looks like the Conservative cop has it pretty much sewed up.

That this seat is competitive at all just goes to show how far the Liberal brand has fallen in Manitoba in the last few years.
