Its more the NDP and less the Tories that pose the biggest threat here.

  2. Jason O'Brian September 14th, 2008 at 1:11 pm 2

The problem with polls in this riding is that they don’t show the true picture! When asked what party people will vote for, they will say the party. However, in reality, they all vote Keith Martin because he is an incredible MP!

  3. Sylvain Lapointe September 19th, 2008 at 9:23 am 3

Another though seat here, Martin will probably lose, But Jennifer Burgis of the NDP and De Souza of the Tory’s are making it very difficult to predict.

Martin will only lose because of Dion….

This is one of just a small handful of B.C. seats where all three major parties have a serious shot at winning. The Liberal brand has been battered in B.C. in general, and Vancouver Island in particular, but Keith Martin always seems to escape certain political death through dint of personality. The NDP did well in this area in the 2005 provincial election and have a strong candidate. Troy DeSouza is also impressive for the Tories and they seem to be making a real push here.

I wouldn’t want to put any money on this race, that’s for sure. And, I have to say, I’m a little jealous that the electors of Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca have three good candidates to choose from…

With Troy on his second campaign and having built up a good rep in the riding. The loss of Garrison hurts the NDs. Keith, of course, is well liked and has kept some of the conservative support with him but it’s been 15 years so the voters may be ready for a change.

I had opportunity to go to the forum at the Church of the Advent, of which I believed I was attending a forum of “All Candidates”; as over the time I know what the Liberal MP, Tory MP, NDP Party, Green Party are all about. However, as a citizen of this beloved country, I was also interested in what the other parties have to offer. In saying, I have heard what the other parties say, I am saying parties. Individually they are all wonderful people, however; the party appears to determine exactly what they can do, and honestly people the MP can truly not do a lot for you in your riding, and speak of your issues. So I was looking forward to the different people who want to look at the problems Canada has from a different point of view.

First of all I was extremely disappointed as the “All Candidates FORUM” was a complete joke, as only four candidates were allowed to be on the forum. I personally know that over time one of the other candidates not allowed to speak had held 10% of the vote. Regardless of this, where is democracy? Are the Canadian people only entitled to hear from a select group of 4 people the only people who are considered candidates. This IS NOT WHAT ELECTIONS CANADA STATES If so, this is the saddest representation of the end of democracy in this country.

Further to this, after watching much begging from one of the agents of one of the candidates, it was allowed that each of the two other candidates could introduce themselves and have one minute (ONE MINUTE) to sum up their campaign. Democracy.

Often it is stated that church and politics are both subjects not to get into an argument about.

One candidate in particular, Philip Ney Independent, spent his one minute, telling the people that he had met a man outside with a beard and a long robe, and they would not let him inside to speak either.

Dr. Ney impassioned by his belief system, and his love for Canada and the apathy and the confusion of the Canadian Public, turned a vanilla pudding forum, into one minute of hot sauce, as he spoke truthfully and with passion, and if nothing else could be achieved, he got the attention of all people, to the blasphemy that was carried forth by the church, but also of the factor that if it is an “all” Candidates Meeting; why were the other parties not allowed to be in the forum. Why is this rigged?

Two very important wrongs were made at this forum. One is whoever chose that only four candidates would speak committed the same crime, as those who would not let Jesus speak, the second wrong, was OUR CANADIAN DEMOCRACY was not implemented.

Further to this, several questions had been submitted, all entirely different from the ones asked by the moderator.

I know these questions were submitted, as it was a prepared submission of questions. Not one was asked.

I left knowing as a Canadian, that Democracy has failed; and that whatever rationalization is put to the running of a forum, advertising it on every candidates website as an “All Candidates Forum” is a blatant lie.

Knowing complete ignorance of any of the questions asked, I believe the Forums are rigged.

I am anticipating the A Channel forum, to see whether or not, only four parties are allowed on the Forum. I checked on the Victoria Chamber of Commerce Website, and it appears as such, that only 4 would be allowed to participate. This is not democracy. This is a rigged election, when democracy and having the people be able to hear all of the candidates who invest time and money into their campaigns, and truly have a moral and ethical value to their cause are ignored.

It disgusts me; and I would only hope further forums, would hear this and know that I as a Canadian am standing up and saying, where is Democracy. Where is my right? Why write lies? Bottom line, is this a rigged election process:

There are not many people in this world today that make a difference, but over time, there have been many; and they were often not the most popular people at the time; but today they are still remembered.

As Canadians we are losing site that if we listened, we could learn. As Canadians we are losing site that if we studied what other countries have done, we could learn. As Canadians, we are losing site that many things have been done for many years, and have not worked out, why would we redo them. Many of the 4 politicians spoke of such things.

History tells us what we as a country did to the First Nations people with the reserves, did we do them any good? No, we did not. Now we take one person’s word that a psychological disease is linked to the addiction process, when in fact it goes both ways. Are we going to set up another style of reserve? We have problems, but by ignoring those who may have answers, and becoming unified and listening from each other, we could learn, we could bring Canada back to the beautiful country, and the beautiful people it used to be. However, it appears the people who are in charge of these forums, are rigging things, so that Canada has no chance to have a heritage, or a culture, or have other ways in which to change the dilemnas that so plague us today.

I am looking for an MP with an Independent Mind, one who won’t change shoes, because his party tells him to. I am looking for a person who will look for answers for us. I believe the people who are staging the forums are afraid of people who may have answers, and are not head nodders.

    Thank you

Woo go NDP! I’m scared of Stephen Harper and his draconian policies… what he wants to impose will turn most people I know into law breakers. I’m glad the NDP look to be #1 in the polls because I like them best, but to be honest if they were not looking good I think I’d vote strategically and go with Liberals, just to keep Harper out.

  8. JP October 12th, 2008 at 3:15 pm 8

Some of the Green, NDP and Liberal policies on crime control simply show a lack of understanding on this issue. Soft on crime does not work as Harpers states. The courts are a joke and so are the sentences for severe crimes. I do not favor a US style justice system at all! The economy is a major mess and adding more taxes is simply not appropriate at this time.

Conservatives – have the right idea. Saying that I wish all parties luck in the poles. Best wishes.
