Not to say they don’t exist. They do but Conservatives dominate the blogging scene. More on that at this neat feature at CBC regarding the online component of the federal election. H/T to Terry Seguin of CBC Fredericton’s Information Morning who mentioned this today (Two plugs for CBC in a week. Who would have thought?)
This actually comes a day after mikel pointed out in the comments of one of the blogs here that I had in the past mentioned there was a lack of left-winged blogs. Seems it’s a cross country phenomenon not just New Brunswick.
Why?
I don’t know. Conspiracy theories don’t wash since anyone regardless of their political stripe can start a blog for nothing except their time. In New Brunswick at least, many of the political blogs might favour conservative ideals but tend to lean towards being non-partisan instead of joining the Blogging Tories or Liblogs for whatever reason.
As I mentioned to Mike, maybe it’s because the Left already has most of the mainstream media so there’s little problem getting their voices heard. Maybe. Maybe it’s something else. Conspiracy theories aside, your thoughts?

How did you decide there were more Conservative bloggers? If you take a look at the contributors to this site, you’ll find:
Bloc Québécois 2
Bloc Québécois/NDP 1
Christian Heritage 1
Conservative 14
Green 7
Liberal 19
NDP 15
Non-Conservateur 1
Non-Partisan 35
Not that this is a representative sample, but where are you getting your stats from?
Chris – you can add this ‘Michael Spinks’ to the neo-con ledger, he’s not non-partisan.
Why do people keep insisting the mainstream media leans to the left?
It doesn’t. It’s a business and it doesn’t make them money to lean to the left because they’re beholden to their advertisers. I mean seriously, what big business is left wing? Other than the CBC, which kisses up to whatever party is in power, the media spans the centre-right to the right.
The MSM in general leans left for business reasons. Here’s a few reasons why:
In general, right-wingers are more rural than left-wingers. Most large local newspapers (e.g. Tor Sun) have a primarily urban clientele, therefore panders to their customers’ tastes. You will note that smaller local newspapers in rural towns are quite right-wing, but many won’t lump these into the “mainstream” because they are not easily accessed by those outside of their physical distribution area.
With regards to the national newspapers, we do see a rough balance of Canadian voting patterns. We have the National Post (center-right), the Globe and Mail (center-left), and the CBC (solid left). The fact that only one of these three (CBC) receives tax dollars is the paramount issue in the subject of mainstream media bias.
Chris, can you point me to the BQ/NDP blog you listed above? I can’t find it.
