A nice TV ad from NDP playing in Québec sums it all.
In English:
A vote for the conservatives: It’s a vote for closed mind politics, for cuts in culture. It’s a vote against Kyoto [Against gay union]. It’s a vote pro-war which enslave us toward oil company.
That a really good summary of why I just can’t put my mark for Stephen Harper on October 14th. That being said, I won’t necessarily vote for Mr. Layton.

Conservatives increased the budget for the Heritage Canada.
It is totally false to pretend that Conservatives are against gay unions or that they are “pro-war”.
Can you at least try to base your statements on facts instead of the biased views of the media ?
Make your own opinion, based on facts not what the biased media feeds you.
Seriously, I am disappointed by your comments.
And unless you live in Stephen Harper’s riding, you don’t have the privilege to vote for him, you are voting for the party’s candidate in your own riding.
The Liberals offer 12B$ black hole, increased taxes and over-spending in areas provincial jurisdiction while the NDP offers even more extreme views because they know they can promise anything and they will never become the governing party of Canada.
8 years ago, the American people made the biggest mistake of their nation’s history. They gave Bush enough votes to allow him to steal the Presidential election. That was the beginning of the worst presidency in US history…..and they re-elected him in 2004….and things just got worse…. for the USA and for the planet…Religious right-wing ideological politicians like Bush imposed a new era of McCartyism in the USA.
Now, in 2006, we gave Harper and his religious right-wing Reform Party (so-called Conservative Party) a minority government . Don’t make the same mistake the Americans made in 2004. Don’t re-elect this modern day intolerant, ultra right-wing religious politicien. Its not too late to fight back for fundamental moral values such as freedom of speech, social justice, worker’s right to unionize, women rights (abortion) , the protection of the environment, religious freedom(separation of Church and State) a more equitable redistribution of wealth. Our parents and grand parents have worked too hard to get where we are now. We don’t have the right to throw it all away by giving Harper and his group another chance.
In your riding, vote for the NDP, BLOC, LIBERAL or GREEN candidate who has the most chance of defeating Harper.
I agree with Immanuel. It sounds like you’re basing your decision on fear-based rhetoric instead of facts.
Conservatives just cut subventions in culture.
Harper want to withdraw Canadian troops from Afghanistan in 2011, which is totally inacceptable. Oh yeah and Harper is probably the best friend every gay want to have…
Can YOU make your own opinion on fact instead of conservatives propaghanda?
12B$ black hole is no proven fact and increased taxes is a good idea. As long as Harper will be against Kyoto with hard and measurable limit, it’s like asking a Christian to vote for Satan.
What has happened in the USA is not rhetoric….and what Harper has done since he took office is not rhetoric either.
Harper is still the leader of the Ultra religious right-wing Reform Party even though he tries to hide it just enough to convince everyone that he is just a conservative politician. After his re-election , if this sadly occurs,, he will say that we elected him for what he is and for what he stands.. An ultra religious right-wing politician….and then, it will be too late!
Well said Ian.
USA just understood after 8 years of Hell and are going to elect Obama if everything continue to go well.
If Canadian elect Harper, they are going to elect the best representatives of Oil company at the head of the second world largest oil reserve. Tar sands are the worst source of oil and we are just beggining it exploitation. In these days of great concern for our planet, I sincerly hope that Canadians would think better than that.
“It is totally false to pretend that Conservatives are against gay unions…”
Um, the Conservatives have voted massively against same-sex marriage every time it’s come up. Harper’s first campaign promise in the 2005-6 election was to reopen same-sex marriage. Harper himself has voted against every single LGBT rights initiative to come before Parliament in his entire tenure as MP.
