Oh my. This stuff never gets old.
“[Jack] Harris’ district of Signal Hill/Quidi Vidi takes in east end [sic] of St. John’s where the granolas live. The granolas are known for their intelligence and artistic flair and for voting against the grain. So many of them started out with high hopes to change the world… They still vote New Democrat, out of habit if nothing else… For the New Democrats, the trek to victory will only begin when the party sees itself as a winner. And not the loser that it is.”
- Ryan Cleary, the Newfoundland Herald, March 2, 2003, p.3
Ryan and Jack are now both running in neighbouring St. John’s ridings for the NDP.

Aah yes,
We New Democrats are such unrealistic idealists, aren’t we? “Granola’s”, I only wish…
But seriously, some New Democrats have continued to support the party from its early days and continuing from its roots as the CCF party, not out of habit or tradition, but because if you go back to the original mission statement of the CCF, and look at the NDP platform today, what stands still strong, are the basic ethics of the party.
Meanwhile, we have seen the Liberals steal most of our most ethical ideas and used them and pretend that they deserve ALL the credit.
I will continue to vote NDP (and me in Dion’s riding) because I feel strongly that my one vote is my voice, my statement that I think the world could be better.
I do not look at elections as if they are a horserace, and the most important thing is to having gone with “the winner”. At least I can sleep at night with my ethics.
As we have

I think you missed the point of my post. I don’t necessarily agree with what’s in the quote, I merely find it ironic given its author, five years later, is an NDP candidate.
Surely in addition to ethics, some NDPers are capable of understanding irony, also…
More irony, in the opposite direction, and from the same neck of the woods, can be found here</a
Okay, I get the irony…
Yes, definately irony, but more in the fact that, “why not run for the NDP”?
There is even more irony in the fact that somehow with this dual irony, I posted the same thing twice! (My apologies… )
